Dear New SYEVF Friends,
Starting a new job is always a challenge that is accompanied by mixed emotions such as excitement, fear, uncertainty, and inspiration. I, without a doubt, experienced all these in only one day. After a few computer glitches, I was definitely feeling like I had started on with the wrong foot. However, in that same day, I was welcomed with arms wide open into the greatest organization the children of San Ysidro could ever be a part of!
When I first learned about what the San Ysidro Education Vanguard Foundation does for kids in schools, I fell in love. I have always had a strong belief that all students need a positive environment along with great motivators in order for the kids to believe in themselves. Here at SYEVF, we are doing our best to encourage kids to strive for something better in a safe and nurturing environment. I am looking forward to being one of the motivators too!
The first week was a great introduction to all that the program can offer like the great activities that are put in place for the kids and all the work that goes on behind the scenes to attend the students’ needs and provide a learning space like no other. It was also a week to learn what to expect in the days to come, meaning that this organization will only keep getting better until every kid that goes through its doors has a better chance at having a bright future.
It also marked my debut to LEGO Robotics! A first in the south bay that I know of and a program that has launched with great success thanks to the amazing people that work for and support this organization.
We, the team at SYEVF, are very excited to introduce LEGO robotics clubs to all our elementary schools for the kids to practice team-building activities and promote positive social interaction, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. I am certain that what they are going to learn will last for a lifetime.
If you want to learn how to build LEGO bots like I did and inspire our youth, you can reach me at email@example.com. I will help you get started.
