Dear Friends of SYEVF,
Another week or so gone by and time to report on all the good things that are happening at SYEVF. I did not get to see the Mentoring Program kids this week or last which makes me a little sad. I may have to pop in next week and say hello. They are my inspiration!
Fortunately, I got to spend some quality time with some quality people this week who are also committed to making a difference in the lives of the kids in San Ysidro. A huge thanks to Matt Booker (top row, left) and the San Ysidro Public Forum on Education. This group has done much to bring the community together in support of the Foundation and more importantly the kids. They meet on the third Thursday of every month. Location varies so please contact me (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you would like to learn more. It’s a great place to network!
The San Diego League of Women Voters is doing great work to bring quality, early education to San Diego. The screening of The Raising of America – Early childhood and the future of our Nation Oct. 22, 2014 at the San Diego Central Library was incredibly interesting and insightful. Thanks to Penny and the rest of the committee for hosting this important event. If you would like more information about their meeting time or the documentary, please contact me (email@example.com) and I will put you in touch.
A heartfelt thanks to Pam Couvignou for our new website and blog. Not only did she donate her time and talent to make it happen but she continues to maintain it for us. Our sincere thanks to Cesar Betancourt, and Larry Samano of Integrated Marine Services, Inc. for immediately contacting us as sponsors for our Dia de Los Muertos Masquerade event. Even though we ended up cancelling the event, their support deserves to be acknowledged. And by the way, we will definitely bring back the Masquerade event at the Mingei in 2015. On a personal note, special thanks to Michael, David, Kip and Elena for their friendship and support of this wonderful place I work.
Also on the home front, we are in the process of hiring an Assistant Program Manager for the Mentoring Program. The response to our ad has been great. Hopefully, I will be announcing our new team member in my next blog. And to Adrian our out-going Assistant, thanks for all you have done at SYEVF and best of luck in your new, full-time, teaching position. We know you will do well!
Wishing all of you a great weekend and as always thanks for supporting SYEVF.
